Google+ reported a 58% jump in users between May and October of 2013 and claimed 500M people had created Google+ accounts as of December 2013. GlobalWebIndex’s latest figures show that Google Plus is the second-most popular social networking service after Facebook and Searchmetrics notes that Google shares or +1’s are growing almost twice as fast as Facebook likes.
This data suggests that Google+ is gaining significant traction across the social media landscape and should not be ignored. Additionally, it is becoming increasingly more important for job seekers to pay attention to Google+ as they continue to manage their online presence and social media engagement. As career professionals, there is an enormous opportunity for us to guide our clients’ job search social media strategy and inform them of the role Google+ can play in helping them land their next job.
